Long-time
Nakamichi enthusiasts will recall the "700" designation traditionally
being reserved only for products of exceptional merit and performance
for example, the TD-700, was the ultimate mobile cassette component
in 1986.
Following
in that tradition, Nakamichi proudly announces its latest "700"
series model, the CD-700 Mobile Tuner/CD Player.
The
CD-700 represents the culmination of years of Nakamichi's research in
the areas of electronic and mechanical engineering as related to digital
audio. Benefiting from our extensive know how and expertise, the CD-700
represents yet another example of Nakamichi's uncompromising approach
to advancing the state-of-the-art in mobile CD performance.
MD-30z
(Available in Japan and other Asian markets only)
Mobile
Mini-Disc Player designed to be used in conjunction with and controlled
by the TA-25, CD-45z, TD-45z or CD-700 in a double-DIN installation configuration.
Same audio performance specifications as CD-45z, except no internal amplification.

FEATURES:
NEW TRAVERSE MECHANISM DESIGN
External
vibrations and shock that cause imprecise readout of the digital signal
is a serious problem that negatively affects the sound quality of CD playback
in-car. In an effort to resolve this problem, Nakamichi engineers had
to redesign the traverse mechanism, the component which houses the laser
pickup and spindle motor. By creating a precise, ultra-light and resonance-free
traverse mechanism, data pickup accuracy is greatly improved. Furthermore,
by suspending the new mechanism within a 3-D Viscous Suspension and employing
an Anti-Roll Stabilizer, harmful vibrations coming from virtually any
direction are absorbed.
MAGNETIC DISC CLAMPING SYSTEM
The CD-700 employs an innovative magnetic disc clamping system that further
improves audio fidelity by providing ultra-stable disc rotation during
playback. Typical spring-type clamps simply hold the disc by friction
contact. This method often results in mechanical vibrations being transmitted
to the compact disc, causing inaccurate data readout. Because this magnetic
clamping system has no direct contact with the chassis, the disc is effectively
isolated from external vibrations, assuring precise, pure signal readout.
SAFE AND RELIABLE DISC HANDLING
The CD-700's unique disc loading mechanism gives first priority to disc
protection. Designed to handle the CD during loading or eject by only
its edge, no damage to the playing surface can occur.
24-BIT LADDER-TYPE D/A CONVERTER
The CD-700 uses an ultra-high resolution 24-bit D/A converter that is
considered to be one of the most technically advanced designs available
today. The signal output of the laser pickup is sent to the converter
via a dedicated digital interface for maximum performance benefits.
4-GANG ANALOG VOLUME CONTROL
It is well known among audiophiles, volume controls can affect sound quality.
Typical car audio volume controls are sonically compromised simply by
being low-cost, low-quality and are expected to perform several functions
besides controlling volume. After listening to many different types, the
Nakamichi design team chose a large (18mm diameter), 4-gang, analog volume
control for use in the CD-700. In addition, this control is used only
to adjust front and rear sound levels. By eliminating such extra functions
as power on-off and balance, channel separation and sound quality is improved
substantially.

HIGH-PERFORMANCE DC-DC CONVERTER
A robust power supply is necessary for amplifying circuits to perform
optimally. The CD-700 employs a high-capacity, bi-polar, DC-DC converter
that minimizes the use of sound-degrading coupling capacitors and provides
an ample source of clean power for the CD-700's preamplifier circuitry.
By doing so, the preamplifier circuit is capable of delivering unequaled
dynamic range and musical clarity.
SELECTABLE ANALOG/DIGITAL CD CHANGER AND AUXILIARY INPUTS
The CD-700 provides two switchable analog/digital inputs. One input to
accommodate a CD changer, and another auxiliary input for connection to
a source unit of your choice. The digital input sampling frequency on
both inputs is selected automatically between 32, 44.1 or 48 kHz.
CD CHANGER CONTROL
Versatile control functions provide full operation of Nakamichi MusicBank
CD changers.
3-BAND TONE CONTROL SYSTEM
Through the use of an independent bass (20 Hz ± 12 dB), midrange
(1 kHz ± 9 dB), and treble (20 kHz ± 6 dB) control, frequency
centers can be adjusted to correct for car-interior acoustics or personal
preference. For the ultimate in signal purity, the tone and balance control
circuitry can be bypassed individually by selectable defeat buttons.
SUBWOOFER PRE-OUTPUT (L/R)
A pair of subwoofer outputs provide easy connection to a subwoofer system.
The outputs are pre-fader, so the subwoofer output remains unchanged when
the front/rear fader is adjusted.
5-VOLT PRE-OUTPUT LEVEL
The CD-700 delivers a high-voltage output that ensures the cleanest signal
transfer to the power amplifiers. Long cable runs can be accomplished
without noise pickup, and signal-to-noise ratios are improved through
the optimized sensitivity matching of individual components.
HIGH-PERFORMANCE PLL SYNTHESIZER AM/FM TUNER
The CD-700 tuner section provides outstanding radio broadcast reception
characteristics and superb audio quality. 18 FM and 12 AM station presets
with Auto Memory, Auto DX/Local switching and Preset Scan make the tuner
a joy to use.
ALUMINUM FACEPLATE AND VOLUME CONTROL KNOB
A stylish and sophisticated appearance is achieved by the use of a 5 mm-thick
solid aluminum faceplate. The faceplate also provides additional shielding
from spurious radiation that might adversely affect the CD-700's high-resolution
audio circuitry. The main volume control is also manufactured from aluminum
to cosmetically blend in with the faceplate and provide a high-level of
"operational feel".
